Sport In Mind is an award winning mental health charity with a mission to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems, through sport and physical activity.
They are the UK’s leading mental health sports charity and deliver physical activity projects in partnership with the NHS in order to aid recovery, promote mental wellbeing, improve physical health, combat social isolation and empower people to move their lives forward in a positive direction.
In addition to delivering physical activity programmes, Sport In Mind also educates people about mental illness and the benefits of being physically active, gaining both national and international acclaim and receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services in 2019.
“Sport In Mind is a really simple concept, something that many of us do every single week – taking part in sport and physical activity to help our mental health. Many of us experience stress and mental health problems each year, but no matter who you are, finding a sport or physical activity that you enjoy really can have a hugely positive impact on your mental health.”
Neil Harris – Sport In Mind Founder

Sport Walk and Sport In Mind are working in partnership to bring the positive benefits of Sport Walking to people’s attention, both for mental health and to boost resilience in life. Sport in Mind will promote Sport Walking as a superb activity for mental wellness and Sport Walk will provide support, advice and encouragement to Sport In Mind’s fundraisers who take on challenge events. In the medium to long term, there is also a plan to create challenge events together, with the aim of providing both fund raising opportunities and inspiration through testing challenges.
The synergy between the two organisations is strong – both Sport Walk and Sport In Mind were born out of mental health challenges. Then, there is the focus on the mental health benefits of sport and activity and there are few better activities for building positive self esteem and self belief than Sport Walking!
But Sport Walk is not just aligned with Sport In Mind in the development of Sport Walking. They are our recommended charity and we encourage anyone seeking a good cause to support for their Sport Walking challenges to consider supporting Sport In Mind. We’ll be supporting them during RED January (for which they are the official charity partner), by setting walking challenges and providing a raft of information and tips to help fundraisers.
This partnership is in its infancy and there is so much to look forward to in terms of what we can achieve together, both to support Sport In Mind’s amazing work and to develop and grow Sport Walking. For us at Sport Walk, partnering with such an inspirational charity is a wonderful thing and it will only help to grow Sport Walking in the UK.
